100 Years of Labour
100 Years of Labour was published on Saturday 22nd July 2006, and had its launch at a lunchtime fringe meeting at the Labour Representation Committee conference on the same day (see www.l-r-c.org.uk for more details).
There are a number of people without whom the publishing of this short book (80 pages) would not have been possible.
A number of comrades looked over early drafts and gave us advice that improved the manuscript. In particular we must pay thanks to Richard Price who wrote the sections on the Social Democratic Federation, Communist Party of Great Britain and Second World War, and Owen Jones who wrote the section on the Chartists. They also gave us some very constructive criticism.
We must also thank John McDonnell MP for agreeing to write the foreword, which you can download for free on this site. We wish John well in his campaign (launched on 14th July) to become the next Labour leader – your Party needs you!!
Special thanks also to three very talented and creative people: firstly Martin Rowson, whose cartoon adorns the front cover, and who creates such superb cartoons in The Guardian (see: www.guardian.co.uk/cartoons/martinrowson/archive). Secondly our thanks to Lucy Haynes who created this website, and also proofread several drafts of the book. Lastly, but by no means least, to Jenny Fisher who typeset the book and improved it stylistically.
We should end by noting that any remaining errors are entirely our own fault, and that all opinions expressed in the book are solely those of the authors – who you can find out more about on the Author Biographies page of this website – and who will be regularly blogging at this site.
One final request, if you have an interest in the history of the Labour Party, and how that history has shaped the present – please buy this book, which you can do online.
Yours in comradeship,
Graham Bash and Andrew Fisher
